Our first time on a narrowboat and a last minute choice. Recipe for disaster? Not with the excellent support, instruction and advice of Nigel and Sally of Road House. Their full briefing, careful introduction and readily available support throughout the rental made this the ideal occasion for our first canal cruise. Their boats are the right size and design for this particular canal and are well maintained; and the “pace notes” for the bridges, narrows, turning points and mooring locations were very good, so we had no worries about not being able to manage the boat or getting stuck. We thoroughly enjoyed it and the week flew by. The scenery, particularly north towards Brecon, is fantastic, canal traffic is light, sources of food and drink are both convenient and excellent, and the local people we met were friendly and welcoming. We were very lucky with the weather but “Duchess” was a very warm and comfortable
base with a lot of character and we loved it. No telly, didn’t bother with the radio, never unpacked the mobile phone—-the pace and natural environment make it seem like a slightly surreal, different world. Holiday bliss! Well done Sally and Nigel and many thanks for your care and support and for lending us that lovely boat.
